Okay, if you follow half the celebrity and entertainment pages as I do, the latest Kimye drama has taken over. I love the details more than anyone, but it’s pretty easy to sum up: on the Fourth of July – because no other day would make sense – Kanye West Tweeted he would be running for president.
Now, right off the bat, that concerned me a little. I’ll be the first to admit I’ve never been a huge Kanye fan, but the pictures of him sporting MAGA gear and befriending Trump makes me nauseous. In the past, his efforts to combat racism, sexism, and homophobia have also been severely lacking (to say the least).
But hey, I’ve always been a huge Kardashian fan, and I’d like to say I was there with Kimye for their whole relationship. For legal and privacy reasons, I wasn’t there in-person, but Kim definitely has mentally sent me some heartfelt appreciation. So yes, I’m a Kimye fan. They’ve always seemed to balance each other out in the weirdest ways possible. We stan.
I digress. Anyway, Kimye has been in the news lately, because in the midst of Tweeting both presidential and new album release information, Kanye also Tweeted some concerning Kardashian information. Some of these included, “Kim was trying to fly to Wyoming [where they have a second home in Cody] with a doctor to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughters life yesterday [during a presidential rally where he claimed Kim almost aborted their oldest daughter North];” “If I get locked up like Mandela Y’all will know why;” and “Everybody knows the movie get out is about me.”
Kanye West revealed that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder with the release of his 2018 album Ye. Since then, neither Kim nor himself have been crystal clear or expansive on the topic. But earlier today, Kim released a series of Instagram stories with plain text and a black background.
“He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions,” she wrote in one of the stories.
Now, I have no idea what to make of this whole situation. Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors – even the reality Kardashian doors. I trust Kim and Kris to handle the situation, but it’s quite a difficult and public one. And does Kanye’s bipolar disorder excuse his past misogynistic and racist comments and actions? I personally believe no, but I’m sure it has some kind of effect.
I don’t know about you, but I’m turning my Tweet notifications on for Kanye and the entire Kardashian fam.
